Watercolor and Chinese Ink Painting Art Diva Selection for May

Thanks Art Diva Art Group for the designation in May. This is a miniature 2.5 X 2.5 inch watercolor and Chinese Ink Painting. My intention was to strike a strong contrast between the ink marks and watercolor background in a small format.

Painting Ink Small Format Wine Decanter

The first time I saw a Chinese Brush Painting it was in watercolor and ink. I was struck with the beauty of the strokes on paper. The format was square the calligrapher/painter spontaneously moved the viewer throughout the painting and back again.

The ink paintings that promote strong connections usually have an energy about them. I remember a Chinese Brush Painting teacher chanting thick thin, dark light, wet dry, fast slow. My small format watercolor and ink paintings combine eastern and western techniques with a dash of my own creativity. Hopefully it all works together. My subject matter is found close to home and in nature.

Rose: Ink and Watercolor Painting

This is an example of one of my watercolor and ink paintings. I'm influenced by the directness of ink on paper. It's as old as time.
